I feel a little ashamed that this is my first post in almost a year.. but whatever gets you motivated right?! Im really thankful for instagram because it creates another platform for designers to be discovered and share your world. There really are so many talented people in this world.. (I get a little jealous sometimes). Sitting 5 days a week in my office cubicle, I honestly feel that my creativity is being sucked away. I'm not doing all my hopes and dreams where I am currently employed and I certainly haven't really helped the situation by just gripping and moaning without really doing much about it. So using instagram is like a little breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, it's beginning to get cluttered with pretty crappy images as well as some stolen ones.. but I guess thats what people do.

Lets Fly...

Ugh! I've neglected my own passion because of laziness... long story so I'm not going to even start.
I'm trying to get back into the groove by making a vow to myself to create a piece of artwork everyday..
HA I am already a couple of days behind. None the less, I have found my muse and have begun working again!

Still there is no such thing as a perfect plan. Problem? I have reverted back to becoming the working night owl. Sleeping by day and working by night. You're probably thinking... why is that so bad? Well... I do have a 9-5 job so coming into work with only 3-4hr sleep is.. exhausting. Not good being a sour grape at work. Alas.. never ending problems.

Anyway, here's the latest I'm working on. In the spirit of the holidays I've decided to create themed cards for festivities in a persons life. These include: birthdays, holidays, graduation, etc...

This is what I have for my first card. To be completely honest, I was going to make a "It's a Baby Boy!" card because one of my co-workers just had the most adorable baby name Jude and I wanted to make her a card.. but it's starting to look more like a birthday card.. We'll see how it turns out in the end.

so during my whole out-of-school runt, I was reading one of my favorite Book series, Alpha and Omega by Patricia Briggs. She inspired this sort of Native American folk style for my owl.

Im still working on the color palette and tweeking some of the awkward lines
but I added some texture and this is what is it so far:

the next step will be to finesse the illustrations, finalize the colors, fix the awkward spaces and add other necessary type.

Brooklyn Botanical Garden

I went the brooklyn botanical garden 2 weeks ago. It was GORGEOUS! I've gone every year since I was a freshman at Pratt (it's free for us and our guests so I take full advantage of that!) The walk there alone is really diverse and at points can be quite gorgeous, even the peeled paint on the side of the building is quite nice just because of the character.
